About This Event
Linett Kamala gives a talk on how Notting Hill Carnival's Founding Mother Rhaune Laslett turned the tragedy of a racist murder into a triumphant display of community unity.
The talk aims to inspire us to take a proactive role in our local communities, even when faced with challenges using the case study of the South Kilburn CarniVale, a new music and wellbeing festival produced by Linett’s company Lin Kam Art.
Topics covered include leadership, regeneration, place making, community cohesion, festival culture and the universal power of the Arts.
Linett Kamala is a creative, DJ, academic and producer. Her socially engaged creative practice engages with thousands of people each year.
Linett is Founding Director of Lin Kam Art which enriches lives through culture via events and programmes. She is credited as one of the first girl DJs to perform at the Notting Hill Carnival, aged 15 in the early 1980s and now champions next generation talent and underrepresented groups in cultural spaces.
Linett serves as Board Director for the Notting Hill Carnival, is President of the UAL Alumni of Colour Association, Associate Lecturer in MA Performance: Design and Practice at UAL and BA (Hons) Live Event Management at ICMP.
