Inspired by the classic tale of Peter Pan, The Lost Girls chronicles four generations of Darling women as they struggle in the aftermath of their adventures with Peter Pan (Louis Partridge) in Neverland. Like her grandmother (Vanessa Redgrave) and her mother Jane (Joely Richardson) before her, Wendy (Emily Carey and Livia De Paolis) must escape Pan's hold on her and the promise he desperately wants her to keep. As her daughter Berry (Ella-Rae Smith) comes into Peter's orbit, Wendy must fight to save her relationship with her daughter while reconciling her legacy.
By looking at four generations of Darlings and how they evolve through different times The Lost Girls ultimately speaks to women of all ages as it contemplates the contradictory human yearning for freedom and safety in a moving and upbeat story of motherhood, re-enchantment and love.
About Livia De Paolis
"It has been such an adventure for me to be able to approach this material with the help of a legendary multigenerational cast. Everyone contributed to each character coming to life in a very personal way and despite the obvious difficulties of making an independent film during the end of the first lockdown I am immensely proud of what we have achieved."
Born and raised in Rome, Italy, Livia De Paolis literally took her first steps on a movie set. Founded by her grandfather, her family ran De Paolis I.N.C.I.R., the only Studios structure privately owned in the country. In operation from 1941-1991, De Paolis I.N.C.I.R. housed the productions of over 2000 films including the works of Fellini, Bertolucci, Visconti, Rossellini, Antonioni, Pasolini, Godard.
After spending most of her adult life in New York, De Paolis has moved to London in the winter of 2019 where she developed her second feature film The Lost Girls which she also wrote, directed and starred. Her first feature film Emoticon which she wrote, directed, produced, and starred in, opposite Michael Cristofer, Carol Kane, Sonia Braga, Diane Guerrero and Daphne Rubin Vega is currently available in DVD and on all the major digital platforms. Emoticon won the Best Ensemble Award at GenArt FF and the Critics Award at Siena FF. Her short film Awestruck was picked up by Shorts International for both broadcast and digital distribution in the United States, Europe and South Asia.
In addition to film, while living in New York, Livia also turned her focus to contemporary theatre collaborating with some of the most innovative personalities of the New York Theatre community. She originated the title role in John Patrick Shanley’s one act Veronica, which was presented at the Powerhouse Theatre by New York Stage and Film and at The Hudson Theatre in LA where De Paolis played the title role opposite Sam Harris, lead singer of the band X Ambassador.
