Understanding dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD Part 1

Tickets: £15 in person/ Included for Hearth Members

Life with dyslexia can be frustrating and very disheartening. It can lead to stress at school and low self-esteem. By approaching dyslexia differently, fear of failure and low self -esteem are replaced by an increase in confidence and a better quality of life. Come and hear how we can help our children overcome their difficulties and achieve their full potential.

You might be wondering how a gift can cause so many problems? These are some of the abilities that dyslexic people have: They can utilise the brain’s ability to alter and create perceptions; They have a vivid imagination; They can experience thought as reality; They think mainly in pictures instead of words; They think and perceive multidimensionally (using all the senses).

This way of thinking can lead to confusions around 2-D symbols( such as alphabet letters) and abstract words (like of, for, here, than) hampering reading, writing, comprehension, social skills,  math, coordination  and focus. However, these same talents can allow the person to excel in strategic thinking , invention, the arts and sports.

Before the gift of dyslexia emerges fully, we need to remove the reasons why our highly creative individuals lose their sense of self as soon as they start school and what we can do about that.

The first talk will be mainly about dyslexia and dyscalculia (i.e difficulties with reading, writing, comprehension, handwriting, focus, coordination and  math), and the second talk mainly about ADD and ADHD( difficulties with focus and why some of the most energetic and highly visual children get in trouble at home and at school). To understand fully any of these  conditions, it would be good if parents attend both talks as they all stem from the same mental function which is disorientation  which can lead  to distorted perceptions. Many ADHD children do not have many of these difficulties but are they really achieving their full potential? And if not, why not?
